Best Hotels in Hanoi 2018 Guide

Trying to find the best place to stay in Hanoi?  Our personal favourite options for budget accommodation is Paradise Boutique Hotel (3* boutique hotel, cheap as chips).

If you prefer something more luxurious, but that still offers value for money, we love Essence Hanoi Hotel & Spa (4* boutique hotel).

Wondering where to stay in Hanoi?  The most popular Hanoi Accommodation is situated either in Old District or in the French Quarter!  We personally prefer for our hotels in Hanoi to be in the Old Quarter.

(3* Rating | Budget Boutique Hotel)

Located in the heart of the busy streets of Hanoi Old Quarter you will find the Hanoi Paradise Boutique Hotel! This little treasure stands tall amongst the colorful old streets typically flooded with loads of people and scooters.Hanoi Old Quarter Vietnam Accommodation - Paradise Boutique Hotel

Actually we thought this hotel was so perfect that we decided to make it our base whilst traveling out to Sapa and Halong Bay.

We stayed at this awesome hotel three times and we had a chance to check out three different rooms, so we can recommend this place to you, with knowledge and recommendations to suit a room for every style and every need!

We love this Hanoi Old Quarter Hotel, simply because it is so super cheap!

What you will LOVE about this hotel:

  • The hotel is very affordable
  • Buffet Breakfast is also included in the price

2.  Essence Hanoi Hotel & Spa

(4* Rating | Mid-Range Boutique Hotel)

After something more classy and luxurious than the Paradise Hotel in Hanoi?

The Essence Hanoi Hotel & Spa offers beautiful rooms, but it also comes at a higher price tag than the budget hotel we just looked at.

Despite its higher price tag, this hotel is popular because it offers loads of value for its affordable price tag!  This hotel is probably the best place to stay in Hanoi Old Quarter.

Essence Hotel Hanoi

The hotel is right in the middle of all the beautiful chaos of the Old Quarter in Hanoi.

But this also means that some rooms might be noisy, so either request a room facing away from the street or a room on a higher level or ensure that you take along some noise canceling ear plugs.

What you will LOVE about this hotel:

  • #1 Best Value of 600 hotels in Hanoi (as rated by TripAdvisor)
  • Cheap spa and massage treatments are available at the hotel
  • Excellent location; walking distance to most attractions in the Old Quarter

This hotel is located in the more upmarket Hoan Kiem district in Hanoi.  While it is slightly further away from the main Old Quarter areas, it is definitely a quieter hotel compared to the previous two.

  • One of the top 10 Hanoi hotels on TripAdvisor
  • Helpful & friendly staff that attend to your every need

(4* Rating | Budget Boutique Hotel)

The Hanoi Tirent Hotel is a slightly older style hotel, but one thing we do love about this hotel is the lovely price tag!

Some rooms are lovely and spacious, staff are super friendly and the rooftop pool & bar is a great place to unwind at at the end of a busy day.

Tirent Hotel Hanoi

Important to note that some rooms in this hotel are really small and some don’t have windows.

1. Hotel Majestic Saigon

(5* Rating | Luxury Hotel)

The Hotel Majestic Saigon is a favourite amongst tourists.  If you enjoy a bit of history, you will appreciate this colonial style hotel.

Located in a brilliant location with rooms that are slightly larger than the typical Vietnamese hotel rooms.

A rooftop bar and a swimming pool, how can you go wrong!

Hotel Majestic SaigonSaveSave

It is important to note that whilst this hotel is rated as 5 stars, it is an older building that was built way back in 1925.

If you are expending similar standards to a modern 5 star hotel you will be disappointed.

None the less those that can appreciate historical design will enjoy the excellence of this hotel.

What you will LOVE about this hotel:

  • The hotel is a historical landmark; built in 1925
  • The hotel is located in a perfect location
  • Roof top bar to relax at after a busy day of exploring.

The Blue Diamond Hotel is a great little budget hotel!  We are loving the location of the hotel; near Ben Thanh market and Tao Dan park.

The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are comfortable.

Make sure to ask for a room with a window if this is important to you as some rooms have no windows (but tend to be more quiet in comparison to those with windows).

Sapa Accommodation

1. For a Sensational Setting:  Topas Ecolodge

IMG_7267

The setting and views from Topas Ecolodge will impress even the hardest of hearts!  This place is built in an incredible manner!  It instantly made us think about ‘Maldives’ or ‘Bora Bora’ but set in between mountains and rice paddies instead of water!

The rooms are designed in an ‘eco’ focused manner, so whilst they are luxurious they fit in well with the feel of Sapa in their elegant simplicity.

The view from your balcony …. you truly need to see it to believe it!  Due to the location, the rooms are a lot more pricey than what you would expect to pay whilst in Vietnam, so it is definitely a bit of splurge.

There are some downsides to this resort; one of which was the slightly overpriced food – which we did not really enjoy!  And whilst they run free shuttle buses, they do not run them at night time.

We thought we could hop over to Sapa for our meals, however it ended up being too much of a hassle and pretty costly to order a taxi.  We also thought that the staff could have been friendlier; whilst they treated us pleasantly, it just felt a bit ‘cold’.

So if you choose to splurge and stay here, it will be because of those sensational views!  And they truly are incredible!

Vietnam Accommodation Topas ecolodge

Location:  Topas Ecolodge is set about 18 km from the center of Sapa Town in Lao Chai Ta Van.  They offer free shuttle buses to Sapa, the trip will probably take you around 30 min as it is mostly on a dirt road.

Occupancy:  Bungalows to suit 2-3 people, baby cots are available for hire as well.

2. Sapa Eden Hotel

Vietnam-Accommodation-Sapa-Eden-Hotel-Front

This little hotel might be budget, but we had a very enjoyable stay here!  The staff are incredibly friendly!

Due to its low prices we were able to book out one of their best rooms which was really lovely and big.  We had an awesome view from our windows.

The bathroom was a bit dated but no big issue at all.  Awesome location for Sapa hikes with the Minority ladies or to set off exploring the region by scooter yourself.

Very affordable!  Recommended from us!

Vietnam-Accommodation-Sapa-Eden-Hotel

Location:  This hotel is conveniently located at Sapa City Center.  From here you can organise hikes through the rice paddies and through the minority villages.  It is also in a great position for a walk to a multitude of lunch and dinner options.

Star Rating:  2.5 Stars

Occupancy:  Rooms to suit 2-5 people

You can check them out and book here.

After something else?  These happen to be popular accommodation choices for Sapa!

3. Sapa Dragon Hotel

A gorgeous 3 star hotel located in the heart of Sapa and two minutes walk from the gate of the famous stone church of Sapa!

This one is a traditional mountain chalet!  A lot more upmarket and luxurious than our previous recommendation.

Hop over and check them out on Agoda.

By far the best way to experience Ha Long Bay is by boat!  Not only is it the best way to see the spectacular scenery, but it is also an incredibly relaxing way of going about it!!

We splurged a bit and booked 2 nights with one of the most highly recommended cruise companies.  Includes cooking classes, food prep, tours of floating villages, bat caves, swimming, kayaking, bamboo boats, oyster farms, hiking, fish farms.

Breathtaking views and super helpful friendly staff.   We truly had a very magical time here and hope that one day we can return for another visit!

River Suites Hoi An is a new building, which means that all room furnishing are in excellent condition!  The hotel has been designed with a very modern feel together with touches of  ‘Hoi An’.

The hotel itself is truly ideally situated within a very short walk to the Old Town.

Buffet breakfast is also included in the price of your room.  We had a beautiful room with an incredible bath!

Our view itself was a bit average, however we truly didn’t spend much time in the room itself so it didn’t bother us one bit!  If you love a clean modern feel to your room, then this is it!

We are sure you will enjoy your stay here!

  1. I have just returned from a trip to Vietnam, and I can definitely vouch for some of the places mentioned in your article. Our favourite was the Topas Ecolodge with it’s spectacular views.
Should you write future articles about restaurants in Vietnam, I would like to recommend one in Ho Chi Minh and one in Hanoi.
    Cafe Restaurant Ho Chi Minh
1st Floor 171 Calmette, Nguyễn Thái Bình, Quận 1, Hồ Chí Minh City
    Home Vietnamese Restaurant
34 Chau Long Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi

    • Hi Julianna, isn’t the food in Vietnam just delish!!!! Yes the views from Ecolodge were spectacular! I believe they have a new manager there now, so hopefully the place as a whole gets run a bit better 🙂 Thanks for stopping by the blog and leaving a comment 🙂

  2. Just wanted to say thank you for your list of places that you loved personally!! We were after budget style accommodation places and booked into your recommended hotel in Hanoi (Paradise Boutique Hotel) as well as the Sapa Eden hotel that you recommended. We were really happy with both of those places and would stay at both without a second thought! Thanks!

  3. Just want to say thank you so much for posting a very honest and detailed review of your time in Vietnam. We also stayed at Paradise Boutique Hotel in Hanoi and loved it, best location by far.

  4. Well, I think the spesial one above is Topas Ecolodge, that really made me fallin in love. I think it’s cool because what we see is the green hills and mountains, and all of that so close. This is obviously very good for refreshing. So cool and certainly fell fresh in there. Very good to choose the theme about ‘eco’ amid globalization issues like now. But if talking about relaxation, I have a suggestion for you who want to meditate with the sound of the waves. Please visit our website. In contrast to Topas, this luxury villa is located on the beach but still can feel the atmosphere of the rain forest. Come visit us.

  5. Some excellent suggestions for accommodation. We recently traveled to Vietnam, but only made is as far north as Hoi An. Hope to return and cover the north. Great post and photos! 🙂 Found you on Pinterest!

  6. Thanks a lot JOLENE EJMONT for providing the information by giving the amazing options to stay when travelling to vietnam.
