Just like a lot of families out there, there comes a time when we all just need a break. Yes, it most likely is hard to get that break from the everyday grind we call life.
We have decided to act on the dreams that we have and to give our family, our children, an opportunity to see the world. We are a family of four, we have two daughters Katie-Lee who is turning 10 soon and Lily who is 6. We want to give our kids the knowledge and experiences that can only happen when seeing places with their own eyes. Together with our kids we sat down and created a list of places that we really want to experience, our family bucket list.
We hope to intrigue you enough to add these destinations to your Bucket List.
Top 5 Destinations on our Bucket List
Campervan Road-Trip down the Great Ocean Road (Victoria – Australia)
(Source- Cath Thuaux)
Campervan road-tripping down the Great Ocean Road in Victoria!! Now that is one spectacular place to see and in a movie-like campervan fashion none the less.
I’m sure it’s usually most affordable for families to experience your own country’s backyard and here in Australia, where we live, that backyard is huge. No better way to explore it than travelling in a camper van all together as a family smiles on kids faces and enjoying quality family time.
Just imagine driving down this road, this piece of paradise in this beautiful country, with plenty to see along the way. With an incredible picturesque coastline. Make a stop at the 12 Apostles, visit the little penguins at Philips Island, and enjoy the little surprises that nature has left for you along the way.
Road Tripping around the South Island of New Zealand
(Source – Aussie Mobs)
When I think of New Zealand, I instantly think of green cascading hills and forests, snowy peaks of the mountains, enormous steel blue lakes and the Lord of The Rings movie.
Well, that is what I imagine, but I think we need to explore this far-away land for ourselves. I hope that just like us, you are engraving this beautiful place on your Bucket List.
South Island is told to be the perfect place for a road trip!! Picturesque mountains, vast landscapes, beautiful lakes and exciting glaciers.. we want to see all.. Southern Alps Mountain Range and several national parks. If your kids are anything like ours, outdoors and nature is their playground, they need nothing more to make them feel free.
Say no more, just put those pictures in your mind, use that pen to write New Zealand and get ready to explore this movie-inspiring, extraordinary and storytelling land.
South African Safari

Ok, so by now you have already realized that on this Bucket List you will be driving, walking and exploring the places in every way possible.
Tell me what you think about this one for a change.
South Africa, this is where my gorgeous wife Jolene is from, and she has enticed me with stories of Safari, wild animals and vast open sandy coloured national parks since I met her. This is where we must go not only for us, but above all for our kids!!
You and your kids, driving down the road in your 4WD exploring a National Park where wild animals roam free in their natural habitats. Can you find the Top 5? The lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffalos. A simply memorable experience that the kids will remember forever.
Highlander Experience in Tatra Mountains – Poland
(Source – Janusz Nosal)
Let's finish off our family Bucket List in the Tatra Mountains in Poland, where I am from. Our kids, like a lot of children from around the world, have never seen snow. And what better way to experience this Frozen adventure than to sit on a sled, with sled dogs leading the way.
Tell me what kid does not want to do that at least once in their lifetime. Ours do and to be honest the little kid inside of me is kind of excited to stand behind the sled and watch my family’s smiles on their faces.
When you are there, we would recommend you book your family into one of the super cosy and warm bed and breakfast’s located at Zakopane; with a view out the window on the picture perfect mountains. This amazing mountain town is one of the most popular destinations in Poland. From hiking, skiing to resort relaxation, the kids will never run out of fun things to do. Immerse yourself in highlander traditions, explore the culture and eat up on the local hearty cuisine. No question, that’s another Tick!!
This might not be your ‘typical’ family holiday bucket list, but we hope we have inspired you to add some of these incredible destinations to your bucket list. We simply cannot wait to cross them off our list! Our kids are super excited!
A culture-packed adventure in Japan
(Source: Richard Murdey)
Japan is a country that is truly unique. It has many diverse travel experiences on offer, from the madness of the neon light-filled Tokyo to the old cultural Geisha district in Kyoto. From true cultural food experiences in Osaka to peaceful island experiences on Miyajima Island. From deer to entertainment parks; from snow monkeys to maid cafes. What is not to love about a country that is so different from our own. Where every single sense will be truly awakened with varied experiences, sights, smells and sounds.
We are aiming to visit and travel through Japan during their most popular season. Normally we avoid high season as we love to experience destinations in a more ‘natural' state. But for me, travelling to Japan to see the Cherry Blossoms far outweighs the tourist-filled streets that we will most likely have to endure.
I am curious, have you been to Japan? do you have any tips for us?
Charity work in Nigeria
When thinking about a family holiday, not many people think of travelling to countries such as Nigeria. Well, for us, we would love to one day venture out to this amazing country, and immerse ourselves in the local culture, and check out some of the hidden gems like the Osun-Osogbo the Sacred Grove.
Yes, there are plenty of national parks and tonnes of things to do with kids in Nigeria. However, what we would really like to do one day, it would be to help out with some charity work and really try to help the locals in need.
I believe that one of the best ways to teach your kids to respect what they have is to go to places like Nigeria and experience how people live in a place that is quite different to what they are used to. And that is why we chose Nigeria!
