The World Record for the Amount of Things that went Wrong on One Trip?

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN COMPENSATED LINKS. FIND MORE INFO IN MY DISCLAIMER.

Have you ever been on a trip where it literally felt like absolutely every single thing went wrong?

Where one unfortunate incident just seemed to roll into the next?

Well I bet that we beat your number of things that went wrong!  I think we hold the new world record after this trip!! (not something we really want to brag about though haha!)

Let us tell you the story!

Ever since we have decided to change our life into a life of travel and exploration, we have never looked back.  This is a dream of a life time, this is the way that we want to spend the rest of our days on this planet!  And it really doesn’t matter how many hurdles we need to get over or how many hoops we have to jump through.  For us, travel is our dream, our passion and our way to explore our lives and to discover who we truly are.

Yes, travel is not always fun and games!  There are always things that can and do go wrong.  Regardless of how prepared you are or how hard you focus, things pop up as you go.  The only question remains:  How are you going to deal with the things that go wrong?

Well, for us, the answer always is:  Whatever doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.  Few battle scars here and there, only help with the stories we tell later.  Haha…  Ok, so let me tell you about what did go wrong on our latest overseas trip.  Haha…  I don’t know why, but I have a smile on my face now!

Wondering what is first on our list?  Click next to find out!

Oh dear, what an experience you guys had. My memorable travel boo-boo took place in Kho Samui. We were sailing around the islands for the day so I covered up with sunscreen, only to awake the next morning with lips like Mick Jagger! I’d obviously missed my lips in my sun protection attempts ????

I read our returning flight time from Rome wrong on our e-ticket, so we arrived at the airport just as the plane back home took off! So, with my visa expiring that day and no option to stay longer in Europe, we needed to buy new tickets. Only flight out that day still was via Paris later that night and we had to spend the whole day in a lounge.

Then, when we finally got to Paris and had boarded the plane, the flight was delayed by a few hours because an emergency exit chute had malfunctioned and everyone on that side of the plane had to be evacuated. Volunteers only, so we waited for a very long time while people made up their minds whether or not they were willing to stay behind that night.

Needless to say, we double check everything now. Lesson learned!

That sounds like a truly frustrating experience!! We have missed flights, but it wasn’t our fault but due to delayed flights …. so the flight company was responsible for sorting out accommodation for us for the night, still made things tricky as we were travelling without our kids and had to organize them for an extra night etc!

Our “vinner trip “where things went wrong was the trip to Mexico – Riviera Maya.

Both my husband and my son got sick with sick belly. First son and later husband so he missed a New Years celebration in the booked restaurant.
Than our rental car broke down in the middle of nowhere when we are driving to Chichen Itza. He spent allmost all day by road waiting for rental company to pick him up. Me and children got the ride back to our apartment. Then when we finaly got another car and made the trip to piramids again, we locked ourselfs out of this new car. Again some nice mexicans helped us out and we had to break into our own car, haha.
And that´s not the end of story.
When we were on our way home and waited for departer, our airplane broke down (canada airlines) . The way home to Copenhagen took almost one extra day but that´s another story.
I still remember this trip as a great holiday and as you say, things happen. The importent thing is how you deal with it. Our children learned a lot on that trip.

Thank You for a great blog and for the travel tips for Lombok. We are going soon to Bali and Lombok and a bit worried about Bali Belly and things I read about criminals in south Lombok and Malaria.
