The Monastery of Hozoviotissa has been built directly into a sheer cliff above the Aegean Sea for almost a thousand years.
From a distance, the white building almost disappears into the rock behind it, and the only way to reach it is by climbing hundreds of stone steps.
9. Kleftiko, Milos
Kleftiko was once used as a hiding place by pirates sailing through the Aegean Sea.
Today, visitors arrive by boat to explore its white sea caves, natural arches, and volcanic rock formations rising from crystal-clear water.
10. Pyrgi, Chios
Nearly every building in Pyrgi is decorated with black-and-white geometric patterns known as xysta.
The designs cover homes, churches, balconies, and narrow laneways, making this one of the most unusual villages in the whole of Greece.
11. Elafonissi Beach, Crete
Elafonissi is one of the few places in Europe where you’ll find naturally pink sand.
The colour comes from millions of tiny crushed shells mixed with the white sand, creating a beach that’s unlike anywhere else in Greece.

Over thousands of years, flowing water has carved these smooth limestone pools into the mountains of Zagori.
